چکیده

This study evaluated the effects of gradual replacement barley with oats on enteric CH4 emissions, rumen fermentation, diet digestibility, milk production, and energy utilization in dairy cows fed a grass silage-based diet. Sixteen lactating Nordic Red received total mixed ration [58:42 forage:concentrate dry matter (DM) basis]. Grass silage (Phleum pratense) was sole forage canola meal (10% DM) as protein supplement. The DM basis were using replicated 4 × Latin square design 21 d periods. grain supplements (30% consisted 100% barley, 67% 33% oats, oats. In addition to intake, digestibility measurements, emissions measured by GreenFeed system (C-Lock Inc.). metabolism estimated from gas exchange measurements recorded unit. last 10 each period used for recordings exchanges, feed intake production. Dry body weight, yield, energy-corrected yield not affected Increased inclusion linearly decreased 467 445 g/d, intensity 14.7 14.0 g/kg milk. addition, ratio CO2 increasing Digestibility organic matter, neutral detergent fiber, potentially digestible fiber increased fecal 121 133 MJ/d, whereas urinary heat production dietary treatment. resulted linear decrease metabolizable intake. However, levels oat did significantly affect balance or efficiency lactation. concludes that could be replaced mitigate without having any adverse productivity balance. effect replacing is dependent differences between concentrations indigestible fat.

Does Dietary Mitigation of Enteric Methane Production Affect Rumen Function and Animal Productivity in Dairy Cows?

It has been suggested that the rumen microbiome and rumen function might be disrupted if methane production in the rumen is decreased. Furthermore concerns have been voiced that geography and management might influence the underlying microbial population and hence the response of the rumen to mitigation strategies. Here we report the effect of the dietary additives: linseed oil and nitrate on m...
